Elect Carden Summers
Senate District 13
[The 13th District includes Ben Hill, Crisp, Irwin, Lee, Tift, Turner and Worth counties and part of Wilcox ---see map at bottom.]
Carden Summers, native of Crisp County, is running to become the new State Senator for District 13. Summers is the son of a farmer and teacher, and was educated in Crisp County schools. He graduated from both Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton and Georgia Southwestern College in Americus.
Carden is 46 years old, married his college sweetheart 23 years ago, and they have two children--Weston and Jade. Active in a number of civic organizations and his church--Midway United Methodist--Mr. Summers brings experience in local government to the table, too.
He served six years as a Crisp County Commissioner, on the County Industrial Development Council, as the county's public safety commissioner, and never voted for a tax increase.
He is also successful in business. Candidate Summers heads Mid South Development--a commercial real estate firm, and Prime Locations Inc., a multistate advertising company.
Summers will bring proven experience and honest representation to the Georgia State Senate for the people of central South Georgia. He was discussing many of the Georgia vs. Downtown Atlanta issues before GHC adopted them as our main campaign strategy, and stands in marked contrast to his opponent in the Republican Primary next Tuesday.
Mr. Summers has an opponent--Joseph Carter, a Tifton attorney. Carter's website reveals a candidate who promises nothing specific, which will allow him "flexibility" in Atlanta to make sellout deals with the Downtown Establishment (that's where the money is, as Roy Barnes showed us). He does not mention Georgia vs. Downtown Atlanta on his website, but he tells us what he like to eat, watch, and the jocks he admires. His website's statement of ethics in Government is telling. Carter evidently doesn't care what contributors do, just so they tell us about it. Does this mean "committ what ought to be a crime, just tell us about it", and it'll be ok?Carter has received big campaign money(over $200,000 so far), some of it doubtless from those big Atlanta interests Mr. Summers opposes.
Voters in Senate District 13 have a clear choice. They can choose Carden Summers, an experienced, capable spokesman for their cause who will stand up against sellout deals to Downtown Atlanta. And Joseph Carter, a "flexible" candidate who makes general statements on a few issues, and a big deal about his services as a Republican party member.
