Flagging Report Saturday August 7, 2004 - Sonny Perdue Flagged at National Fairgrounds in Perry Bud Cranford's Report & Pix [click the 'latest flagging pics' link] Steve Scroggins report Twenty-something Georgia citizens reminded
Governor Perdue and other citizens of Perdue's failure to honor his
promise for a fair flag vote. Translation: SONNY
LIED. SONNY WAS FLAGGED.
As always, the reception by citizens (black, white and other)
passing by was favorable. It was a great flagging. See the photos and more details below...
Macon Telegraph story || 13WMAZ story
From the 13WMAZ website story: THE FLAGGING.....We assembled and set up at the intersection nearest the entrances to the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry. For our protection,
there was a large contingent of Georgia State Troopers loitering under the nearby shadetrees on the grounds.
The media was present; Channel 13 was there with a camera and interviewed me and others, she shot footage of
lots of folks, Lijah's Chicken, the mechanized cavalry and so forth. The Macon Telegraph's Liz Fabian and a photographer was on the scene,
and Liz interviewed Bud Cranford among others. A local 4-county AM radio station was there and interviewed me. Then there
were over a dozen attendees of Sonny's Fish Lie...I mean...Fish Fry who pulled out their cameras in their cars and shot
photos of us.
I'm sure I'll leave some names out but the North Georgia and West Georgia folks were well represented. Lijah & Rhett Coleman, Ken Waters, Rodney Waller, Lum Pettit and Harold ?? from Cleveland, Jack Kelly from Brunswick,
Stanley Lott (author of Slavery and the U.S. Government), Richard Moore of Snellville, Norman Black, there were a handful whose names
I can't remember, and the Camp 1399 regulars, Bud Cranford, Russ Huffman, Ken Gunn, Ralph Carson, me and Matt and Josh.
Now you know most of the cast, when's he getting to the flagging, you ask? OK, OK.
Lijah, Ken and Rhett and maybe a few others moved down to the overpass and they saw Perdue as he got off
on the exit ramp...they let him have a piece of their minds. Most of us didn't see him pass by the main body of our
troops, so we figured he must have turned right at the intersection and gone in the side gate. Lijah said the tinted
glass concealed Perdue pretty well. No one saw the Lying Backstabber Eric Johnson; we're not sure if he made it. I saw
Johnny Isakson in a maroon SUV leaving the shindig. The look on his face was like a surprised bloodhound...but then
he always looks that way.
The best look of the day was priceless. A black man in the passenger side of a truck stopped at the
intersection where Stanley Lott was seated with his '56 flag. His jaw made a thudding sound on the side of the truck door.
He looked so stunned...and just stared. Stanley spoke to the man, then Ken Waters added a few remarks. Before he pulled away,
the man was giving Stanley the thumbs up.
We all enjoyed it. Perdue snuck out the back way and decided not to greet us again. Maybe Ken, Lijah and
Rhett were a little too harsh to Perdue? Nah!
As I was driving home, I noticed that a State Trooper had pulled Lijah over even before he could get back
on the Interstate. I presume that we'll hear the details on that from Ken or Lijah. I'll post links to Bud's report and
others when I see them. Ken Waters, Ken Gunn, Jack Kelly and Bud were also taking photos.
