Republican Straw Poll

As everybody in Georgia knows - "Letting The People Vote" was a major issue in the 2002 Campaign. A well financed and sitting incumbent governor, Roy Barnes, was defeated in a major upset for ignoring the People of Georgia.

Roy Barnes had ignored the People while pandering to special interests. A Republican governor - Sonny Perdue - was elected after promising to "Let The People Vote." It's VOTES that win elections, not money or special interest support.

Here we sit today, facing another election and once again the People have been ignored and worse----they have been insulted.

Despite campaign promises to "Let The People Vote," there has been no honest vote. Instead, another Metro Atlanta Chamber flag was created in a secret back room deal and rolled out. The leading contender, the 1956 flag, was removed from the 'choices' as part of the backroom deal and the resulting hoax referendum held in March 2004 was an INSULT, not a "choice."

When candidate Perdue was promising Georgians a vote to choose their flag, there were only two flags in contention: The Barnes 2001 flag and the 1956 flag. No one knew anything about the Perdue/Chamber backroom deal flag. Reasonable voters had every reason to believe the promised vote would include the 1956 flag and the 2001 flag. Yet Perdue has the audacity to claim that he "kept his promises."

There is something American about "Letting The People Vote." During the debate on the Constitution of 1787, Alexander Hamilton (the main author of the Federalist Papers) said:

"Representatives of the people are not superior to the people themselves."

In Washington D.C., the Republicans demand a "FAIR Up or Down Vote" on judicial nominees. In Georgia - for four years the elite Republican leadership has said "No Vote!" The hypocrisy of these elite Republicans runs off the scales!

A Mason Dixon Poll showed that 79% of Georgians want a Fair and Honest Vote. But for four years the Republican leadership has ignored the large majority of Georgians and the Metro Atlanta Chamber has publicly taken credit - bragging about their influence.

The Metro Atlanta Chamber won about three-fourths of its agenda, most critically the flag. Given a new Governor and new legislative leadership, this was a great achievement. ---from the Metro Atlanta Chamber website

The question remains the same as it has throughout the history of mankind:

"The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite." --- Thomas Jefferson

A little perspective is appropriate when considering the sacrifices of our Georgia military veterans. The following totals for Georgia veterans killed gives some perspective on the scope of these wars:

VietNam

1,584

Korea

740

World War Two

over 6,000

War for Southern Independence (1861-1865)

over 30,000

As a percentage of the total population, the loss of 30,000 men was staggering. No other historical event even comes close.

To the "politically correct" and the politically expedient, it was considered acceptable to denigrate the memory and sacrifice of our VietNam veterans. Too many Americans shamefully allowed them to cast aspersions on the character and dedication of the VietNam veterans. That shameful lapse is now being corrected for the most part---and none too soon.

But the politically correct, the race hustlers and the politicians and corporations who pander to them continue to insult the memory of the over 30,000 Georgia veterans lost in America's worst war (and the many thousands more who survived it). Traditional Georgians refuse to accept that progress requires wiping our feet on our veterans and denigrating their sacrifice. May God have mercy on all those who do.

To a majority of Georgians, the Memory of these Veterans  means more. To a majority of Georgians, Fairness and Honesty are important.

It is time for Georgia Republican Party members to decide where they stand. Do they stand for Fairness, Honesty and honoring our veterans? Or do they just go along with the politically expedient, accepting lies and hypocrisy and selling out honor to pander for a few votes and to please a few elite special interests? The following straw poll presents a question about the upcoming Republican Primary. We hope you will take a minute or so and answer the question.

A Mason Dixon Poll documents what almost all Georgians have known anyway. They want a FAIR and Honest Vote on the State Flag.

QUESTION: The Georgia legislature is presently considering holding a referendum to permit the voters to choose between the current State Flag and the 1956-2001 State Flag, which contained the Confederate battle emblem.  Do you believe that the people of Georgia should be allowed to say which State Flag represents them, or not?

                          YES        NO      NOT SURE

STATE                     79%        15%         6%

That's right, 79% --- 8 out 10---believe that it's Fair and appropriate to let the People Vote with an Honest Choice!
