MOSB Condemns Edwards' Pandering Comments on Confederate Flag Press Release Edwards' Panders on Confederate Flag
The Military Order of the Stars and Bars takes great exception to the comments by Senator John Edwards of North Carolina regarding the display of the Confederate flag on public property. "Senator Edwards is pandering for votes by South bashing." said Military Order of the Stars and Bars Commander General [chief executive officer] Jeff Massey. "We take a dim view of any politician from any party which would compromise historical truths for political gain."
"North Carolina was a key Confederate state during the war, contributing more regiments to the Southern armies than any other state. Following the war those same veterans contributed mightily to their state and their nation. Senator Edwards' comments are disrespectful and specious to those veterans of yesterday," said Massey. "It is pretty sad when a presidential candidate does not know the history of the state he supposedly represents."
"If "divisiveness" is the test for public display of historical symbols, when do you start knocking crosses off of grave stones or tearing down town monuments? Senator Edwards is pandering to be a Non-Southern Southerner. Historically, those folks were called "scalawags".
The Military Order of the Stars and Bars (MOSB) is a historical, genealogical association of men whose ancestors served in the Confederate officer corps or who served in the Confederate or state governments from 1861-1865. The MOSB was founded in 1938 in Columbia, South Carolina by original Confederate officers. The MOSB maintains its International Headquarters in Columbia, Tennessee.
