The NCAA extorts Mississippi and Georgia over the battle flag – Commentary by Steve Scroggins
In the article link below, Donald Adderton gets it right and wrong.
Flag Extortion is improper use of NCAA authority
By Donald Adderton in The Sun Herald
While I generally agree with the overall sentiment of his commentary, he apparently isn't aware that
our last one-term governor (Barnes) sold the flag for $20 million in campaign cash and his successor, Perdue the Liar sold
out for even less. He promised a fair vote on the flag and then reneged.
Or perhaps Mr. Adderton is aware of the treachery of Georgia's dancing governors and he's just making the point
that anti-southern "new-south" types use the NCAA argument to justify denying the truth of our Confederate heritage. We just
can't afford to lose a tournament and all those tourist dollars they argue.
Years of tourism revenues loudly dispute these arguments as Mississippi and South Carolina have both profited
from NCAA and NAACP "boycotts." The question is, WHEN is Georgia going to wise up and realize how much tourism revenue we're
forfeiting by caving in to these loud, slimey bullfrogs?
Mr. Addison is completely right that the NCAA is showing its bigotry and that extortion---even INEFFECTIVE extortion---is wrong.
Of course, the money talks, but for many Georgians, the money is less important than the principle.
In my opinion, the NCAA can jam their tournaments where the sun don't shine. Their attempts to extort Georgia
and Mississippi into flying flags they prefer only serves to strengthen our resolve to defend the truth. The people of Mississippi (all races) overwhelmingly voted to keep
their flag and I'm confident the people of Georgia would restore their 1956 flag if given a Fair Vote to express their will. What gives the NCAA the right to meddle in the people's choice? What gives the Georgia legislature and governor the right to thwart the people's will?
And for our slimey Chamber types who care more for money than anything else (like honor, integrity, truth, etc.), then they
should join us for their own selfish reasons...if we can just get the bigots to boycott Georgia, too, we're sure to rake in an extra
ten to fifteen percent in tourism dollars just as South Carolina and Mississippi have.
Why are you Chamber types letting South Carolina and Mississippi enjoy such an advantage?
While y'all are thinking about that, the rest of Georgia is planning to ensure that Sonny Perdue
is another one-term governor. The Sonny Lied signs and Punt Perdue bumper stickers are going up everywhere. Keep in mind, we have two whole
years to intensify the effort. I hear reports that there were literally hundreds of such signs between Atlanta and Douglasville this morning as Gov. Perdue drove out
to Douglasville for a Saturday With Sonny event.
I think Perdue has realized (after 70-something flaggings since May 2003) that it's not going to blow over
in a few months. Governor, if you really want to help Georgia's economy and tax revenues and alleviate the budget crisis, you'll let the people
vote and invite the NCAA and the NAACP to boycott Georgia. Do the right thing.
