Lying Perdue Lies Again – Letter by Lum G. Pettit
February 7, 2005
Dishonorable George Perdue
Office of the Governor
Georgia State Capitol
Atlanta, GA 30334
Dishonorable Gov. Perdue:
I am replying to your attached form letter. As you
and I and the people of this state
KNOW, your campaign promise was NOT simply to "afford the citizens of Georgia the opportunity to vote." Your
campaign promise was an unmistakable promise that the people of Georgia would be given the opportunity to vote
in a referendum that included the '56 St. Andrews Cross Flag.
When you were at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland on your last bus
and helicopter tour, I started to tell you that I have a lot of friends that personally asked you, when you were
campaigning for governor, if you were talking about this flag (they had in their hand the '56 Flag). You said, "Yes,
that flag." You did not want the people hear what I was going to say, I am sure you knew, and left before I could
say that you said, "Yes, that flag."
You unmistakably became Lying Sonny when you signed HB-380 no matter how you cut
it. I know that you know how to veto a bill because you vetoed some 20 bills when you signed this one but it was part
of your compromise deal to sign HB-380. The Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce said it won about three-fourths of its
agenda, "most critically the flag. Given a new Governor and new legislative leadership, this was a great
achievement." Three million dollars along with a trade off for a tobacco tax increase apparently justified
in your mind the decision NOT to honor your campaign promise and become by default, Lying Sonny. Proverbs 19:9
says "He that speaketh lies shall perish."
King Roy Barnes spent $20,000,000 in his reelection bid and lost. You spent something
like $1,500,000 and won. No amount of money can buy what we heritage workers do. We work day and night for nothing
and spend our own money. This SHOULD tell you that money does not win elections, it's votes that win elections. King
Roy had us heritage people working against him and as things stand right now we will be working for your defeat in
November 2006. Unlike some people, principles matter to us.
House Bill 380 DID NOT fulfill your campaign promise. Without your campaign
promise, YOU WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ELECTED. It is just spin when you say that the people of Georgia spoke with great
clarity regarding which flag will fly over our state in the March 2, 2004 bogus referendum.
In this bogus
referendum only 577,370 people voted for the Perdue Counterfeit Flag in comparison to 768,703 people who voted
AGAINST a same sex marriage ban. Support for Gay Marriage in Georgia is 33% higher than support for the Perdue Counterfeit flag.
March 2, 2004 was the second lowest voter turn out in twenty years. You do not mention
that only about 20% of the registered voters turned out for the referendum and that only 15% voted in favor of the
Perdue Counterfeit Flag. In other words 80% of registered voters declined to vote in this insulting choiceless
referendum.
Your "beautiful banner" as you call it does not reflect our history and heritage. Nine
of the thirteen stars on the Perdue Counterfeit Flag represents northern states, they do not represent the thirteen
Confederate States. The St. Andrews Cross Flag has always been a symbol of indepenence and defiance against tyranny.
The '56 Flag is under constant attack by the politically correct because it is SOUTHERN and it is a CHRISTIAN SYMBOL.
When Jamaica became an independent country in 1962 it adopted the St. Andrews Cross as the country's flag---they
obviously see it as an honorable Christian symbol----not what the P.C. propagandists make it out to be.
The governor has no business in trying to exercise any control over the legislators and
the legislators have no business letting the governor exercise any control over them. Government IS NOT supposed to
function in this manner. I and, according to the recent poll conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling Company, about 79%
of the people of Georgia are tired of being controlled by the politicians that they elected to represent them.
Government is supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people not government of, by and for the
politician. Politicians and their lackeys are blocking the right of the citizens to govern themselves. Apparently
the politician does not realize when he/she takes the rights and freedom away from the citizens, he/she is taking
rights and freedom away from himself/herself and their family and friends. Lying Sonny, it will be only a short
time and you will be like King Roy, you will have to drive yourself wherever you go.
You politicians say the flag is a dead issue. You know full well that it is in no way a
dead issue and will never be a dead issue until the people of Georgia get a fair flag vote that is not controlled by
the politicians. THE FLAG IS NOT THE MAIN ISSUE. POLITICIANS THWARTING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE IS THE MAIN ISSUE. THE FLAG is only an indicator
of the willingness---or LACK thereof---of the State government to serve the People.
I am 65 years old and I will devote the rest of my life in fighting government tyranny.
We will get a fair flag vote it may not be until 2026 or 2046 but we will eventually get a fair flag referendum.
According to the recent poll the majority of the people preferred the current flag but
79% of the people polled wanted a fair flag vote that includes the '56 Flag. If you want this issue to be over and
truly be a dead issue, do the right thing and give the people a fair flag referendum in November 2006 to include the
'56 Flag.
Sincerely,
Lum G. Petitt
