Decaying Body of Knowledge – Commentary by Michael Kilpatrick, 3/31/10
"...At what exact point, then, should one resist...? ...How we burned in the prison camps later thinking: what would have things been like if
every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say
goodbye to his family? ...If...If... We didn't love freedom enough. ...We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward."
--Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, from "The Gulag Archipelago"
"We forget everything. What we remember is not what actually happened, not history, but merely that hackneyed dotted line they have chosen to drive into
our memories by incessant hammering."
--Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, from "The Gulag Archipelago"
A young man's reaction to an article I passed on, dealing with the ongoing leftist coup, which mentioned secession in passing:
"Secession! Great, just what I need is tyrannical state autocrats telling me I can't be a part of my own country."
As with most subjects these days, there's little left of what used to be a 'shared body of knowledge' from which to compare and contrast viewpoints. This
is due to a variety of factors, premiere among them, 'progressive education' and Orwellian 'newspeak.' But I'm always willing, if not eager, to tilt at
the windbags of PC thought, regardless of the parallel universe feel of most of what was once considered 'discussion,' in these endarkened days.
“During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” --George Orwell
My dear leftist sister (bless her heart) has decried the lack of civility, tolerance,
and most of all, compromise in today's political/cultural
disputes, and declared debate over. Very convenient, and much less taxing than being pressed to answer uncomfortable questions, or consider contrary
views. A fool or an idiot might grant her the premise.
There can't even begin to be any communication unless a case for the truth or falsehood of
presuppositions is laid bare and acknowledged, prior to entering the arena of ideas. All anyone should have to do is compare America's original intent,
(Founding Principles)
with the imminent birth of a resurrected East German 'Republic', or Cuba-writ-large we see coming, to track the unwavering march of what 1984 'double-think'
has redefined as "compromise."
'Neo-compromise' moves in only one direction, and now means nothing less than, "submission." A great gulf is becoming
fixed between our ideological starting points. The re-education camps of John Dewey's dream have rendered the knickered proletarians ignorant of even
the concept of original intent.
Secession, as reasonable a course as some of us might wish for, won't happen without the historical repeat of violent upheaval. To many of us it seems as
if it would be equitable, if not compassionate, to alleviate the collectivists from the grievous aggravation of our company. I, for one, feel that
recovering from the loss of theirs wouldn't be overly traumatic. I fantasize about an amicable division, bound by an updated version of the "Articles
of Confederation", into a loose assembly of regions, defined by like-mindedness and State lines. But that too, is a peaceful pipe dream.
My sister is correct in one sense. Debate has ceased, though "debate" in the context of cultural Marxism is a misnomer. The 'will to power' of the
secular State will brook no impediments to the tyranny of the collective. The supreme autonomy of (some 'elite') men cannot abide liberty, much less
the challenge to their authority posed by the Christian God. What then? I wish I could see a reasonable solution, but the only real choice is
either a free-market, original intent, Constitutional Representative Republic ... or the U.S.S.A., with the slight glitches of the U.S.S.R. remedied,
of course. (100 million involuntary martyrs was simply short of the goal.) But ultimately, God holds the nations in derision, and will justly and
righteously do what He will with His own.
Expediency, as with ideological pragmatism, isn't worth a warm bucket of spit.
---Dirt Road Scholar
"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is
no virtue!" ---Barry Goldwater, July 1964
"If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them, they [the people] must become happy."
---Thomas Jefferson, 1802, letter to Thomas Cooper

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or
arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were
our countrymen!"
