March referendum an Insult & its result Invalid – Commentary by Steve Scroggins
A link to an AP wire story is included below. The story itself supports my contention that the March 2nd
referendum is an insult and that most people are choosing to ignore it. The results are unpredictable and will be invalid in any case. I am, however,
annoyed by the headline put on this story: "Georgia flag debate nearing an end."
Nothing could be further from the truth.
It will NOT be over until the people of Georgia get a Fair Vote that includes all the leading contenders.
The gist of the story, written by Kristen Wyatt, points to a general lack of interest in this
particular referendum. The reason is obvious. Folks are put off by it. They see it as meaningless and futile. What's the point? Everyone
knows that the result will be invalid. It's a rigged referendum. Vote for Saddam Hussein or Saddam Hussein. A politician's flag or another politician's flag.
No matter what happens March 2, it won't be over.
I don't know about you, folks, but I'm getting tired of reading and hearing that it will be over.
Let your legislators and your governor know your position on this. No matter which flag you prefer, it's hard to eliminate the leading contender from
a three-way race and then call the resulting "no-choice" referendum a "choice."
A Fair Vote is not too much to ask. A Fair Vote is the only way to settle it.
