Another Stroke for Truth and Tolerance in a World of Intentional Misinformation
Commentary by J. A. Davis, 2/01/2010
"Duty is the sublimest word in the language. You can never do more than your duty. You should never wish to do less." --Robert E. Lee
"Remember...it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations." --Gen. Stephen Dill Lee, from his remarks to the
1906 assembly of UCV/SCV known as "The Charge."
Thanks to my friend and occasional columnist for the Georgia Heritage Council, Lew Regenstein, I am moved to offer some constructive comments regarding a
sad state of affairs that we all too frequently observe in America today.
Please note the embedded short You-Tube presentation on American Jews in the Confederacy below.
All too often we hear our friends in the Jewish community malign the Confederacy and those who served it. It long ago occurred to me these people are
historically challenged and more often than not simply parroting some misinformed politically correct vision of history.
Little do some of them know they may be descendants of Jewish Confederates. How wrong they are. In the interest of
fairness, the same holds true of
too many in the Christian clergy.
The truth revealed in the video above is that a large proportion of the Jewish population in the
1860's not only resided in the south but voluntarily fought to defend it in the War Between the States.
See the references to the largest Jewish population in America at the time being in Charleston. Also note that a large proportion of the population in
Louisiana at the time was Jewish. Other Confederate states had Jewish communities that loyally served.
This holds true for courageous ethnics from many origins, Catholics from where many leaders and heroes came. Natives of America, some who prefer to be
called Indians. Black people who served in the CSA both as free men and slaves, voluntarily. Soldiers of many national origins other than the USA who
believed in the independence of and the right to self-government of the Confederacy. Colonel Santos Benavides and Hispanic Confederates - by Calvin E. Johnson
Brigadier General Stand Watie - by Calvin E. Johnson
Bill Vallante, self described as a 'yankee' by birth but a Confederate in Spirit, has done an excellent job of extracting from the official records (U.S. Army) and
the Slave Narratives how many southern blacks viewed the war, their service to the south, their loyalty to former masters and their views of their so-called
"liberators" from the north. We proudly reprise his Black History Month series throughout February. Black History Month and 'Civil War Memory' - Bill Vallante 2/01/10
Legitimate history is daunting. The truth is illuminating as we recognize in this particular You-Tube video the combination of ethnic institutions and leading
businesses today that were initiated by people who freely served the Confederacy. Even those who were founded and flourished under Confederate leaders who
try to hide their history in total disrepect for those who made them what they are today. Dr. John Stith Pemberton, "The Inventor of Coca Cola" - by Calvin E. Johnson
Real history can never deny those Confederates and their descendants who went on to become highly visible public servants, military heroes and national
leaders in these United States.
President Harry S. Truman was one of many
notable Americans who were/are members of the
Sons of Confederate Veterans (male descendants of Confederates)...a group we note is unfairly and inaccurately maligned as a "hate group" by such frauds and demagogues as the
Southern Poverty Law Center and their ilk.
Read all about the SPLC on our Hate Watch Page.
God bless our rich heritage.
"Help me to be, to think, to act what is right because it is right; make me truthful, honest, and honorable in all things; make me intellectually honest for
the sake of right and honor and without thought of reward to me." --Robert E. Lee, from the Truman Library. This Robert E. Lee prayer was memorized
by President Harry S. Truman, and used by Truman throughout his life.
"...Such are the reasons that I proudly display the picture of [Robert E. Lee] this great American on my office wall." --President Dwight D. Eisenhower,
from a letter to Dr.Leon Scott, 8/1/1960
"Although young George was named 'Junior,' he was actually the third to bear the name George Smith Patton. The first Patton was killed in the Civil War at the
Battle of Winchester at the age of 26. He was commanding the 22nd Virginia Regiment in the Shenandoah Valley. Walter Taswell Patton, a brother of the first
George Patton was killed at Gettysburg while leading a regiment under the command of Major General George E. Pickett." --The Patton Society,
